Dianthus

Description: Perfume Pinks are a series of great prize-winning dwarf carnations. They are naturally compact varieties for pots and containers, have a wonderful fragrance and are remounting. They prefer warm and dry places. Of great advantage is their frost resistance to approx. -30 °C.
Cultivation time: about 16 weeks (normal cultivation).
Potting: 9 - 13 cm pots (1 plant per pot); 60 - 70 plants/m²;
15 -19 cm pots (3 plants per pot); 20 -30 plants/m².
Substrate: Well-drained substrate with a high air volume (by addition of 10 % pearlite or styromull where necessary) and approx. 10 % clay.
pH 5.8 - 6.8
Fertilization: Dry cultivation, avoid excessive soil wetness!
Moderately consumptive, apply 0.1 - 0.2 % of a K-accentuated complete fertilizer once a week.
Temperature: Normal cultivation: Start at 18 °C, finish cultivation at 12 - 14 °C after full rooting.
Cold cultivation: 1 - 4 weeks 18 °C; 5 - 8 weeks 14 °C; then lower to 4 - 6 °C.
Finish cultivation at 14 °C as from 9 weeks before selling time.
Light: Full, unshaded light (if possible, extend day to 16 hours in mid-February for 2 to 3 weeks; 3 - 4 klx).

Growth regulators: Chemical growth regulation is not necessary.
Pinching: 1 to 2 weeks after potting or immediately in case of a suitable young plant size.
Diseases and pest: Carnation rust, altanaria, thrips, spider mites, plant lice;
take hygienic measures!
Water balance is of importance; the plants must not stand too wet, danger of botrytis, damage to roots and irregular plant build-up are the consequences.
